Beginning with credentials issued July 1, 2002, the NBRC’s Continuing Competency Program (CCP) was put in place to assure the public and others that individuals credentialed by NBRC continue to demonstrate a level of excellence in professional knowledge, skills and abilities as respiratory therapists and pulmonary function technologists. The purpose behind CCP is to establish standards by which continued competency of credentialed practitioner working on defined areas of respiratory care, including assessment, may be determined. The CCP was designed to enhance and contribute to the continued competence of credentialed respiratory therapists and pulmonary function technologists, as well as demonstrate concern for patient safety. Most individuals required to participate in the program have successfully renewed their national credentials issued by the NBRC by providing evidence that they continue to meet standards of practice.

Sleep Studies

The Institute for Continuing Education has been granted 2024 approval for all 52 of our sleep oriented courses by The Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) and its Continuing Education Sleep Technology Education (CSTE) Program.

NBRC

All RPSGT & CCSH certification holders must recertify every five years in order to retain the use of their credentials. CECs are no longer limited by category, by a specific program or activity type.

To recertify, RPSGTs & CCSHs must either earn 50 continuing education credits that follow the BRPT Recertification Guidelines during their 5-year credential window or retake and pass the exam before they are due to expire. The BRPT does not accept duplicate course credits earned within the 5-year window.

Make sure you know your certification expiration dates and recertification deadlines. Expiration dates can be verified by searching the BRPT Credential Holder Directory or logging into the Self Service Portal.
